DFW WOW Advanced Violin Camp is for violin students who:
- Have completed Suzuki Violin Book 6 and
- Are 12 years of age or older
Non-Suzuki students or those who are under the 12-year age requirement may be accepted. Please call 817-319-7818 for consideration and for more information.
The Advanced Violin Camp is
$500 per student.
Students will receive 5-hours of instruction each day
* to include:
- Master Class, students will share a 60-minute private lesson with one other student of similar playing level
- Supplemental Group Class, students will receive music three weeks in advance and should be able to play the music prior to arrival
- Advanced Technique Class
- Enrichment class, one to be chosen from the following two:
- Viola for Violinists, a short, efficient course
recommended for young advanced violinists who want to expand their
opportunities for playing in chamber music groups. Violinists will
learn to play the viola and read alto clef, using Suzuki and supplementary
viola literature.
- Compose & Compute, taught by Carl van Wyk, learn to
compose an original piece for the instrument of your choice using Sibelius
4!. Compose & Compute will enable you to utilize Sibelius 4 in this very
creative and fun way.
- Effective Auditions (June 30-July 1, July 6), designed to help
students prepare musically, mentally and physically for what can often be a
very stressful -- yet inevitable -- event in a young musician's life.
- Chamber Ensemble (July 2-5), students will be grouped according to playing
level and may be grouped with violin, viola or cello players who are
participating in the concurrent student institute.
In addition, a variety of music and social activities are provided each evening
to enhance the student's overall camp experience.
* Students will receive two hours of instruction on Sunday afternoon, June 29,
beginning at 2:00 p.m., then three hours of instruction between 9:00 a.m. and
4:00 p.m. on Monday - Saturday, June 30 - July 5, then two hours of
instruction on Sunday, July 6, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
DFW WOW Advanced Violin Camp is held at the
American
Airlines Training & Conference Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Registration begins on Sunday, June 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and classes
begin on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
Participants who fly should fly into DFW International Airport. Shuttle service
for the 5-minute trip to campus from the airport is provided at no charge.
Participants who fly into Dallas Love Field (approximately 25 minutes) should contact
Super Shuttle or similar service for information about transportation to the
campus.
Students must check-out of on-campus housing by 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6.
Final concert will be at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6. Shuttle
service to DFW International Airport will be provided following the concert.
DFW WOW recommends staying onsite for the duration of the camp. Please review your choices for onsite
housing and/or meals:
- Dormitory-style housing: $450
- Shared, twin-bedded hotel-style room with private bath, Fri. June 29 through Thu., July 5.
- Pricing is per person based on double occupancy.
- Please provide roommate requests. To assure requests please mail forms together. Private rooms are unavailable. If no name is provided, student will be assigned to a same-gender roommate.
- Meals include lunch on Fri., June 29 through breakfast on Fri., July 6.
- Sharing room with attending adult: $ 850
- Housing provided in hotel-style room with private bath, Fri. June 29 through Thu., July 5.
- Pricing is per room based on one student and one adult sharing a room.
- You may choose either queen or twin beds.
- Meals include lunch on Fri., June 29 through breakfast on Fri., July 6.
- Lunches Only: $ 56
- If staying off campus you may choose to purchase a meal card for onsite lunches for June 29-July 5
Meals will be served in the full-service, onsite cafeteria, which offers a
variety of menu choices, including Pizza Hut, sandwiches, soup and salad bar,
and many other options.
Students will be assigned a "dorm mom" or "dorm dad" who will supervise all
evening activities and will sleep in the same area of the campus as their
students. (Boys and girls will be housed in separate areas.) Students will be
required to check-in with their "dorm parents" each day at mealtimes.
DFW WOW requires release forms for all unaccompanied minors. These forms are available
after registration and must be returned with your paid registration.
