PI Course Descriptions
MASTER CLASSES
Meet in groups of 3 or 4 students. Each student has an individual lesson on a piece that is technically and musically mastered, while the other students and parents observe and grasp practice points applicable to their own studies.
GROUP REPERTOIRE / TECHNIQUE CLASSES
Stress ensemble, technique, and tone production through the review of repertoire up to and including the student’s current book level.
MUSIC AND MOVEMENT
Through participation in games, exercises, and improvisations, students learn to combine music and movement in order to develop rhythmic unity between the eye, ear, mind, and body. Open to all musicians. Also available for siblings at an additional charge.
ART
Do art and music have any connections? Yes! Learn to express yourself through another modality. Students will be creating a variety of art projects throughout the institute that incorporate many different textures and mediums. Please plan on bringing an extra T-shirt/paint shirt that can be worn during class. Open to all musicians. Also available for siblings at an additional charge.
MUSICIANSHIP
Improve your music theory, learn about composers , and improve listening skills through games and activities that make music learning fun. Open to all musicians.
COMPOSE AND COMPUTE
Taught by Dr. Carl van Wyk. Learn to compose an original piece for the instrument of your choice using Sibelius music software. Compose and Compute will enable you to utilize Sibelius in this very creative and fun way. Open to students in Book 4 and up.
