The
2008 Student Institute Repertoire List is
now available. In preparation for DFW WOW, please review the attached pieces up
to your most recently studied piece. Final concert selections will be made from
the attached repertoire list.
For the 7th year, DFW WOW is back and it's better than ever. For the fourth year
in a row, DFW WOW is a fully-sanctioned SAA Suzuki Institute, complete with
teacher training. As always, DFW WOW is designed as a family experience to
provide a concentrated course of study with highly-trained and
internationally-recognized Suzuki clinicians.
On of the other things that sets DFW WOW apart is the world-class facility,
which is perfectly suited for this type of event. All classes, housing, and
meals are conveniently located under one roof!
We are again building on the success of our previous years with classes that
focus on developing technique, musicality, note reading, and ensemble playing
while reinforcing previously learned skills. We are adding a variety of
enrichment classes designed to broaden our students' institute experience. Your
favorite activities are back, like the "Fun Faculty Recital," "Stories & Songs
in the Simulator," and movie night.
Program fees for the DFW WOW Student Institute are based on the student's current book level:
- Pre-Twinkler: $ 299
- Book 1-3: $ 349
- Book 4 and above: $ 399
The institute also allows parents the opportunity to see the success of the
Suzuki approach on a grand scale and enhance the skills they need to help their
children learn.
- Each Book 1 and above student will receive 4 hours of instruction
- Internationally recognized faculty
- Play-ins and parent seminars
- Stories and songs in the simulator (fun time aboard an aircraft cabin simulator)
- Movie Night in the Flagship Auditorium
- Faculty Recital
- C R Smith Museum (aviation museum) right next door - free admission
- Recreational activities
- Swimming pool/hot tub
- Lighted sports courts
- Sand volleyball courts
- Picnic areas and cookout grills
- Game room with pool tables, air hockey, and video games
Comfortable clothing is appropriate for the Institute. Rooms are air
conditioned, so plan accordingly. Recital attire will be dark bottoms and
institute T-shirts.
Each student in Book 1 and above will be scheduled for:
In addition, students will be placed in two of the following supplemental
enrichment classes according to age and ability.
Personal requests for specific classes or faculty cannot be accommodated.
Optional play-ins will be available on Thursday, Friday & Saturday
afternoons.
Pre-Twinklers will receive 3 hours of instruction per day to include:
Participants will meet with a small ensemble for one hour each day. Basic
principles of chamber music will be stressed. Parts may be doubled to allow
growth in confidence. Additional $50 fee required.
A. Junior Division: ages 9-11
B. Senior Division: ages 12 and older
Eligibility requirements for both Junior and Senior divisions:
Violin: Completion of Concerto in G Minor by Vivaldi
Viola: Completion of Seitz Concerti
Cello: Completion of Book 3
ALL STUDENTS are encouraged to participate in the Final Recital on Sunday.
There are also fun and exciting activities held in the evenings for all.
Each student should review repertoire up to and including his/her current piece
and come prepared to play a polished piece for the first Master Class meeting.
The teacher can readily assess the student's needs by hearing a technically and
musically mature piece.
Parental participation is essential to the success of the Suzuki method.
Parents attend classes with their children and help them to prepare for the
next day's classes. Parent seminars are scheduled during optional play-ins.
All children 11 years and under should be accompanied by a parent or another
responsible, interested adult. It is preferable that there be one adult per
child. Childcare is not available during DFW WOW.
Private teachers are welcome and encouraged to attend and observe their
students' classes at no additional charge.
Based on our six years of experience with this institute at this facility, we
strongly encourage participants to stay on campus for the duration of the
institute. Participants can stay on campus in beautiful guestrooms which include
private bath, individual work/study area, digital telephones with dataports and
voicemail, cable TV, coffee makers, irons and ironing boards, and daily maid
service.
Hotel pricing for student institute participants:
$68 inclusive of tax, per night per room
Housing must be prepaid to DFWWOW as part of your registration.
To reserve accommodations, please choose the onsite housing option on the online registration fees page.
Costs are per room (either single or double occupancy) and are furnished with
either two twin beds or one queen bed. (Three people may stay in one room but are
responsible to bring an air mattress or sleeping bag - rollaway beds are not
available.) Although pre-reserved room nights must be prepaid with your
registration, a major credit card will be required upon check-in for incidentals.
Local students may commute, or for those wishing to stay off campus, hotels near DFW Airport
are an option; however, staying on campus provides easy access to evening institute activities
and allows you to get the most out of the overall experience.
There is a full-service cafeteria onsite, which offers a variety of menu
choices, including Pizza Hut, sandwiches, soup and salad bar, and many other
