Teacher Training Audition Information
June 29 - July 6, 2008
Audition Levels
Basic Audition
requires recording of specified repertoire from Suzuki
Volume 4. Successful completion of the Basic Audition allows the individual
to participate in pedagogical study of Books 1-4. The
Alternate Audition
requires a videotaped performance of specified material from an upper level
Suzuki Method book. Successful completion of the Alternate Audition
qualifies the individual for study of Books 1-10 (or through the most
advanced Suzuki book level for the instrument).
Audition Deadlines:
Specific deadlines are set to allow time for processing prior to the beginning
of study. It is highly recommended that these be met, to determine applicant's
eligibility for Participant status well before enrollment and course start-up.
Video auditions for short-term courses at institutes or workshops should be
submitted
to the SAA by April 30 to meet the SAA deadline. Results of
applications received after that deadline may not be available before course
start. If results for a video already sent are not available by start date, the
applicant may enroll in the course with "tape pending" status. If video audition
has not been sent by the course start date, trainee can enroll under tape
pending status and submit the video audition no later than
8 weeks after
the course finish. If audition is received and accepted, meeting that deadline,
the applicant's status changes from tape pending to participant. If audition is
not received by the 8-week-post-course deadline, the applicant becomes an
auditor retroactively and cannot register the courses with the SAA. For further
information, please see the SAA Web site teacher section for downloadable video
application forms (with instructions) at
www.suzukiassociation.org/teachers/training.
Late Fees apply under the following circumstances:
- Short-term course participation submits videotape
application after the deadline of 8 weeks prior to
course start.
- Apprenticeship participant submits after the
deadline of 8 weeks prior to completing the unit of
study.
Registration of Courses under Tape Pending Status
If the status of the trainee is "tape pending" at the conclusion of the course,
no SAA course registration form will be issued. If the audition is processed and
approved, meeting the above deadlines, registration forms will be issued at that
time. If no audition is received or if the audition isn't accepted, no
registration form will be issued. The status of the trainee becomes "auditor,"
and the course work cannot be registered.
For Books 1-4 and supplementary/overview courses on pre-Book 5
repertoire:
The Basic Audition applies only for courses in Books 1-4, and further
auditioning is required beyond that level (see below, either step B or the
Alternate Audition). Submit a videotape application of specified pieces
below to SAA. Roman numerals indicate the movement to be performed.
Editions are applicant's choice.
- Seitz Concerto No. 5, I; Vivaldi Concerto in A minor, III
- Breval Sonata in C Major, Allegro; Tchaikowsky, Chanson Triste
To qualify for study of all Suzuki book courses and supplementary/overview
courses:
This audition allows the applicant to audition only once for all courses.
Submit a video of the specified pieces below to SAA. Roman numerals
indicate the movement to be performed. Where two pieces are indicated, the
applicant may choose one. Editions are applicant's choice. The applicant
must play a cadenza if it's a section of the piece, but may pick their
preferred version. If the Alternate Audition is not accepted, the applicant
may choose to submit a subsequent Basic Audition.
- Mozart Concerto 4, I; or 5, I
- Haydn Concerto in C Major, I or Boccherini Concerto in B flat, I
